About Me

My calling to journalism came later in my senior year of high school. I had been assigned my first article on my school’s new principal Fidel Montero. That changed everything.

I was eager and excited to report on the administrative transition. It had been my responsibility to report on the occurrences of my high school. I did not take that responsibility lightly. What caught my attention about this particular administrative change was the fact that Montero came from a similar cultural background as I did, of a Mexican background. He had a unique perspective approaching education. It was my opportunity to showcase not only his experience as an educator but also as someone whom people don’t traditionally see in education.

That’s when I knew that I had to find a way to pursue this line of work. I have always been drawn to stories, I live and breath them. I wanted to find a way to do meaningful work that informs and articulates what is happening in my community. Today I write at the Daily Utah Chronicle as a news reporter. When I'm not writing or seeking out stories you can usually find me reading a book with a strong cup of coffee.
